Round 1 of HCA Competition saw both Basket Range teams bring home some early season points with some strong performances at the crease and the beer fridge. The D grade were the first team in the association to win this year when Browno got a phone call from Mt Lofty telling him that the redcaps had heard about Kingo's recent form in the nets and would rather forfeit than face certain annihilation. This left most of the lads with another week to contemplate life and crack some brewskis. Mick the builder was by all accounts in fine form celebrating his maiden win at the club friday night, while Russ and Jimmy and their good friend James Squire gave the C Grade some vocal support. The extra week off means the lads are super pumped for the Peter Moyle cup clash in Round 2.
The C Grade had a solid win keeping last years grand finalists Stirling to 7/85 on a very slow Lords surface. Everyone performed with the ball. Westy and Sebby led the way with their 2/11 and 2/15 from their respective 8, whilst Geersy claimed 2/19 from 7 and Sammy 1/12 from 4. Curnow and the Gock also gave a good showing keeping it tight at their respective ends. Sammy and Browno found it hard going on the slow deck but both played well to have Baskets over half way when the first wicket fell, Browno top scoring with 25. From there is was smooth sailing for the range with Curnow and Dougy both showing the Eagles how its done with the bat getting the Range to 7/156 at the close of their innings. Andy Dean back from the USA for the week was chuffed with the result and played some good shots.... unlike his team mate Berwick who played the worst cricket shot of all time to dismiss himself and earn a certificate of merit from the R Wotton school of batting. The C Grade take on SCIB in Round 2 at Scott Creek.
